Prototype

Campaigns had a lot of potential, but its usability challenges made it hard for users to take full advantage of its capabilities. We knew a redesign was needed, but we wanted to make sure we got it right. Along the way, the project was temporarily put on hold when leadership decided it should be moved into our App Studio environment, which was owned by a different team at the time. Now that I’m part of the App Studio team, I’ve seen this project come full circle with the release of Dispatch—now called Report Builder—which launched in Beta in March 2025.

The context

The context

The context

Campaigns was designed to help users create and manage targeted campaigns, but adoption was low due to its outdated and clunky UI. The app required extensive data knowledge, making it difficult for many users to navigate and utilize effectively. Additionally, its unintuitive navigation made it hard for users to discover its full capabilities, leading to frustration and missed opportunities.

The challenge

The challenge

Businesses need an efficient way to manage and automate communication without becoming overwhelmed by the number of relationships they must maintain. New users struggle to find a seamless solution for data-driven communication, while existing users of the former Campaigns app face challenges with a confusing UI, hidden pages, and a complex email builder. The lengthy process of creating communications further discourages engagement, limiting the app's potential use cases.

Redesigning the Campaigns feature was a challenge since it was unfamiliar territory for me. To get up to speed, I started by breaking it down—pulling screenshots into FigJam and jotting notes, highlighting key areas to understand the full flow from a high level. This helped me map out how everything connected and where the biggest opportunities for improvement were. From there, I moved into wireflows, which I find to be one of the best ways to fully grasp what needs to happen and where. Once we had a solid foundation, we jumped into mockups, leveraging Domo’s design system components to create a more intuitive and seamless experience.

The solution

Domo Dispatch, formerly known as Campaigns, gives you the power to easily create customized Communications to deliver actionable information to customers, staff, and contractors. With a brand-new name, a host of new features, and improved navigation, the app now reflects the power that it holds. The intuitive flow through Communication setup, with guideposts for next steps, offers a shallow learning curve for users. Not only will this help streamline the creation of Communications, but it also gives you deeper control on what to send, and when. With named distribution lists as "first class citizens" through saved filtered datasets and individual Communication send rules layered on top, the process of creating and sending a Communication is easier than ever. Domo Dispatch provides you with automated, individualized communication, right at your fingertips.
